Sussex Police Investigation Teams Found To Be Understaffed in Report

A review by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary has found that investigation teams within Sussex Police are frequently understaffed, raising concerns about the force’s capacity to handle serious and organised crime effectively.

The inspection report revealed that at the time of the review, a team within the force that required 18 detective constables had five unfilled positions.

Across Sussex Police, 430 detective positions were meant to be filled, but only 373 posts were occupied, with 99 of those held by officers still undergoing training.

The report deemed Sussex Police as “adequate” overall.

Detective Chief Superintendent Till Sanderson acknowledged the findings but expressed confidence in the improvements made since the inspection. Sanderson emphasised the dedication of officers and staff in addressing serious and organised crime, while also recognising that further investment and improvements in certain areas are still necessary.
