Sussex Police Launch Operation Hope to Protect Domestic Abuse Victims Over Christmas
Sussex Police and partners have launched Operation Hope to protect domestic abuse victims during the festive season, a time when incidents of abuse typically increase. Officers will carry out discreet visits to high-risk victims and manage offenders to reduce harm.
Under Operation Hope, Sussex Police aim to safeguard vulnerable individuals and deter high-risk perpetrators. Domestic abuse incidents tend to rise over Christmas, prompting proactive engagement with victims and offenders. The Complex Domestic Abuse and Stalking Unit (CDASU) will play a key role in managing high-harm offenders, working with agencies to encourage behavioural change.
The initiative follows Sussex Police’s support for the UN’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Lewis emphasised the importance of protection during Christmas, urging victims to seek help. “We and our partners remain committed to protecting victims, whatever the occasion,” she said.
Support for victims includes discreet video call interviews and resources like Safe Space Sussex. Those in need can contact Sussex Police via 101, online, or 999 in emergencies. For silent 999 calls, pressing 55 will connect to the police. The multi-agency domestic abuse perpetrator project continues to target the most dangerous offenders to reduce harm and repeat victimisation.
