Sussex Police Re-appoints Jo Shiner as Chief Constable

Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner has been officially re-appointed to her role after a brief absence due to a retirement scheme. The decision was confirmed by Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne at a meeting of the Sussex Police and Crime Panel.

Jo Shiner, who initially stepped down in August, returned to her post following the approval of the panel. Commissioner Bourne praised Shiner’s leadership, stating that her experience and commitment to public service make her the best person to continue leading Sussex Police. The panel chairman also expressed strong support for Shiner’s reappointment.

The scheme under which Shiner took leave is part of a national initiative allowing officers to retire temporarily before re-joining their posts. Shiner, who has served Sussex Police for over three decades, will now continue her duties on a four-year contract lasting until 2027.
