Train services suspended due to emergency incident

Train services between Barnham and Horsham were suspended this morning following an emergency incident near Pulborough that required the response of the fire brigade.

Southern Rail reported at 5.28am on Thursday, 27 March, that all lines between Barnham and Horsham were blocked in both directions. The affected route meant no services could call at Arundel, Amberley, Pulborough, Billingshurst, and Christ’s Hospital stations. Passengers were advised to expect delays and consider alternative routes via Brighton and Hove.

By 6.24am, the fire service remained on site, assessing damage to the railway infrastructure. Southern advised passengers that there would be no train service on the line until at least 10am. Ticket acceptance was extended to include other Southern and Thameslink services, Great Western Railway services, and London Underground routes at no extra cost.

Rail replacement buses were dispatched but remained limited, with Southern stating at 8.14am that services at Pulborough and Arundel would continue to be unavailable until further notice. Passengers are encouraged to check with station staff for up-to-date information and to allow extra travel time while the situation developed.
