Tributes Paid to Worthing Charity Trustee and Fundraiser Percy Nowell

Long-standing Worthing volunteer and charity trustee Percy Nowell has passed away at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of fundraising and community service.
He died peacefully at St Barnabas House hospice, having dedicated years to supporting local causes, including Guild Care and the Worthing Seafront Festival.
Percy was deeply involved in the entertainment industry, running a theatrical agency in the 1960s and later organising Back to the ’60s events in Worthing and Bognor Regis. After retiring in 2004, he began volunteering at Guild Care, taking on transport roles and later becoming a trustee in 2015. His passion for fundraising saw him play a key role in numerous campaigns, including supporting Worthing mayor Bob Smytherman’s record-breaking charity drive in 2013/2014, which raised £20,000.
In addition to his charity work, Percy was well-known for his contributions to Worthing’s music scene, managing The Shoreline Club and hosting events to support local organisations. His Back to the ’60s nights continued until 2022, raising money for West Sussex Mind. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
