Two 12-Year-Olds Arrested in Lancing Arson Investigation

Lancing | June 7, 2024

Two 12-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a former laundry site in Lancing.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at the old Gochers Laundry on Alma Street, Lancing, on Tuesday evening. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours as thick smoke billowed from the windows and doors.

The two boys were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life but have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

This incident marks the second time the building has caught fire, with a previous arson case reported in November 2019. A planning application to demolish the site and replace it with eight homes was scheduled for a decision earlier this month.

Sussex Police continue to investigate and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact police online or call 101, quoting serial 1199 of 04/06.
