Vandalism at Steyne Gardens Damages Charity Display in Worthing

A community project led by volunteers from a local charity has been damaged in an act of vandalism at Steyne Gardens in Worthing.
Worthing Borough Council reported that a timber floral clock and a number of planters installed by the charity Sight Support Worthing (SSW) were vandalised. The items were ripped up and thrown into the fountain located at the southern end of the gardens. The damage was discovered on Tuesday, 25 March, and has since been reported to Sussex Police.
The display had been maintained by volunteers from SSW for several years as part of a partnership with the council’s parks team. The council has pledged to assist with the reinstatement of the display, including funding for new plants and soil. Park rangers have already begun restoring the damaged features, including repositioning the beams and salvaging plants from the troughs.
Sight Support Worthing expressed gratitude to the rangers for their swift response. A spokesperson for the charity said volunteers had recently re-planted the sunken garden, and the vandalism was a setback to their efforts. Sussex Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for information from the public, asking anyone with details to contact 101 quoting reference 47250056283.
