Work Begins on New Energy-Efficient Homes at Former RAF Site in Worthing
Work is set to begin on 11 new council homes at a former RAF air cadet site in Victoria Road, Worthing, in an effort to address the town’s housing shortage.
The development, overseen by Worthing Borough Council, aims to create energy-efficient homes for local families in need. Contractor Sunninghill has been appointed for the construction, which comes after recent site clearance work.
According to the council, Worthing currently has nearly 2,000 households on its housing register, with many families being placed in temporary housing outside the area. This project is intended to support local families by providing affordable housing options within the community, reducing the strain of relocation on residents’ lives.
Funding of approximately £800,000 from the government has been secured to assist with the site preparation and construction. The project is scheduled for completion by autumn 2025, with the new flats expected to be ready for tenants by that time.
