Work Begins on New Memorial Garden at Worthing Crematorium
Construction has started on a new memorial garden at Worthing Crematorium to create 950 new burial plots, addressing the growing demand for memorial spaces.
The new garden, located where the former Muntham Court once stood, will offer permanent resting places for cremated remains, including duo plots for couples and quad plots for families. The project aims to meet the needs of over 100 families currently on the waiting list while preserving the tranquil and natural environment of the crematorium grounds.
In addition to providing much-needed space, the garden will feature a sensory area and sustainable planting to support wildlife and the environment. The new spaces will also help generate income to support local council services. Construction began in early November 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of January 2025, weather permitting.
Cllr Rita Garner, Worthing’s cabinet member for regeneration, praised the project, stating it will allow families to lay loved ones to rest in a peaceful setting. Further details about securing a plot in the new memorial garden are available on Worthing Crematorium’s website.
