Work to Begin on New Emergency Units at Worthing Hospital
Improvement work is set to commence at Worthing Hospital, affecting parking and access as new emergency care units are constructed.
Worthing Hospital is preparing for significant upgrades with the construction of a new urgent treatment centre (UTC) and a same-day emergency care unit. The existing UTC will be relocated from its position opposite the X-ray department to within the emergency department. The new same-day emergency care unit will occupy the former UTC site and will feature an expanded waiting area, a courtyard extension, ten consultation rooms, and utility rooms.
As part of the project, heat pumps will be installed to provide a sustainable heat source. This initiative is a collaboration with Worthing Borough Council and heat network investor Hemiko, aiming to deliver climate-friendly heating to every building in the town by 2050. The new heating system is expected to save on fuel and carbon emissions, as well as reduce maintenance, fuel costs, and insurance inspections.
The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust has announced that parking will be limited during the construction period. From August 19 to October 17, a section of the main public car park will be closed, and visitors will be redirected to nearby offsite car parks. Pedestrians will need to take a longer route around the car park to reach the south wing entrance, although disabled parking will remain available in the main car park. The Trust apologises for any inconvenience and assures that efforts are being made to minimise disruption.
