Worthing and Adur Councils Face Multi-Million Pound Budget Deficits
Worthing Borough Council and Adur District Council are facing considerable financial challenges, projecting significant budget deficits over the next five years. The councils attribute the shortfalls to reduced government funding, cost of living pressures, and inflation.
Worthing Borough Council has revealed a projected budget deficit of £25 million for the period between 2023 and 2025. Adur District Council faces a £9.5 million shortfall over the same period. Specific areas of council services, including parking income, bereavement services, and commercial waste, have been identified for review as part of efforts to address the budget gaps.
The councils have expressed concerns about the growing pressure from temporary and emergency accommodation services, which are forecast to consume a significant portion of their budgets. Despite the challenges, council leaders remain committed to adapting and finding sustainable solutions to continue supporting their communities.
