Worthing Car Parks to Introduce New Payment System by Year-End
Worthing Borough Council has announced a significant change to the payment systems in its town centre multi-storey car parks. By the end of the year, the existing number plate recognition technology will be replaced with new payment machines, requiring drivers to pay for parking upon arrival rather than when leaving.
The council decided to make this change due to persistent issues with the current technology, which has caused problems for motorists trying to enter, pay, or exit the car parks. The new system will offer multiple payment options, including cash, card, and the MiPermit App, which also allows users to extend their parking time remotely.
Public reactions to the announcement have been mixed, with some residents expressing frustration over the new method. Concerns have been raised about the potential inconvenience for shoppers and visitors who may end up staying longer than anticipated. Despite these concerns, the council has proceeded with the changes, planning to install the first new machines at Buckingham Road car park next month, followed by Grafton and High Street car parks later in the year.
