Worthing care home placed under improvement plan after CQC inspection

A care home in Worthing has been told it must improve, following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which identified issues with staffing levels and governance.

Marlow, a residential care home on Nursery Lane in Worthing, was inspected in November 2024 with the findings published in March 2025. The service, which supports people with learning disabilities and other complex health needs, received an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’ across all assessed areas including safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership.

The CQC reported breaches in staffing and governance regulations, noting that the home did not consistently have enough staff to meet residents’ complex needs or provide stimulating activities. Inspectors found that while some residents had positive experiences, others lacked appropriate communication assessments, which limited their ability to express preferences. Relatives gave mixed feedback, raising concerns over staff turnover and communication, though some acknowledged recent improvements following management changes.

Liaise (South East) Limited, the care provider, said it “deeply regrets” the shortcomings identified and has since implemented a comprehensive action plan. A new manager has been appointed to lead the improvement efforts. The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents and pledged to address all issues raised by the regulator.
