Worthing Cat Welfare Trust Urges Pet Owners to Neuter and Microchip Cats
Worthing Cat Welfare Trust has called on pet owners to ensure their cats are neutered and microchipped following an influx of abandoned felines.
A significant increase in abandoned cats has prompted Worthing Cat Welfare Trust to emphasise the importance of neutering and microchipping pets. Joss Loader, the chairwoman of the Trust, highlighted the recent intake of three young cats and a newborn kitten, none of which were microchipped or neutered. Ms Loader described the situation as “overwhelming,” with many cats now seeking new homes.
New legislation in England mandates that cats must be microchipped before reaching 20 weeks of age. Ms Loader criticised the irresponsibility of owners who fail to comply, noting the recurring issue of young cats repeatedly falling pregnant. She stressed that this practice is neither kind nor aligned with animal welfare standards, and reminded owners of the legal requirement to microchip their pets.
The Trust reported that all four newly received cats are safe and currently being cared for. They include a black male, a tortoiseshell and her kitten, and a tabby female. The Trust urged the public to donate towards the cats’ care, ensuring they are neutered, vaccinated, and eventually placed in loving homes. Donations can be made via the Trust’s website.
