A Worthing-based charity supporting disabled veterans has been awarded a £25,000 grant to fund physiotherapy services.
Care for Veterans, which has provided care for disabled veterans and their families since 1919, will receive the funding from the Veterans’ Foundation over a two-year period. The grant will support long-term, respite, rehabilitative, and palliative care services at the charity’s facility, which relies on raising £1.5 million annually to maintain operations.
The majority of the residents at Care for Veterans use wheelchairs and participate in group cycling sessions led by physiotherapists. These sessions, designed to improve physical and mental strength, utilise wheelchair-adapted bikes that allow for arm or leg cycling with adjustable resistance. Lead physiotherapist Belle highlighted the importance of these sessions, noting that nearly 200 take place each month, helping residents achieve personalised rehabilitation goals.
Peter Inkpen, CEO of Care for Veterans, expressed gratitude for the grant, stating that it has significantly enhanced the well-being of their residents. Louise Buchanan, grants manager for the Veterans’ Foundation, emphasised the foundation’s commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of veterans through funding essential services like those provided by Care for Veterans.
