Worthing Charity celebrates 30 years of helping people

In 1995, in response to concerns over the plight of women in Worthing facing unintended pregnancy, Acorn Pregnancy Counselling Centre was founded, initially in the basement of a church in Broadwater. The charity soon found its own premises and started to see clients, giving them space and opportunity to receive free, impartial counselling, and, as one client commented “to hear my own voice.”

Over the years Acorn has developed to also offer free counselling for those affected by pregnancy loss such as miscarriage, still birth and post abortion. Acorn also now has teams regularly visiting most secondary schools in the Worthing area with sessions for Year 10 students around the story of pregnancy. Now on Saturday 29th March, a special celebration will mark the event, when past and present volunteers will tell the story of this remarkable charity.

Acorn is inviting past clients, and past and present supporters, to join them for the event, which will include an talented acapella singing group, stories from clients and volunteers, and light refreshments.

Charity trustee Patrick Woodward said “We’re excited that Acorn has reached this milestone. Over the past 30 years we’ve helped thousands of people as they’ve faced life’s challenges, and it continues to be a privilege to support people in this way. We’re looking forward to a fun and informative celebration on 29th March!”

The celebration takes place at River of Life Church, 19a Broadwater Road, Worthing, starting at 7 pm on 29th March. In the afternoon, the counselling centre will be offering tours of its premises at Pilgrim House, St Dunstan’s Road, Worthing. Visitors to both events are asked to contact Acorn’s office to confirm attendance – call 01903 823893 or email office@acornworthing.org.uk
