Worthing’s Christmas tree in Montague Street has been vandalised, leaving it in need of costly repairs before it can be lit up for the festive season.
A Worthing Borough Council spokesperson confirmed that the lights on the 30-foot tree were damaged after cables were deliberately cut. The tree, which was installed and decorated to bring festive cheer, now sits fenced off with its lights removed as repairs are assessed.
The tree, funded by the Balcombe Estate and sponsored by Hemiko, was part of the town centre’s holiday display .
