Worthing Council Begins Work on Energy-Efficient Housing
Construction has begun on 11 energy-efficient council homes in Worthing, part of a project to house local families in need. The homes are being built on the site of the old RAF Air Cadets base on Victoria Road.
Worthing Borough Council has partnered with contractor Sunninghill to develop the project, which aims to reduce the need to relocate families outside the area. The council currently moves hundreds of households due to housing shortages, which impacts their quality of life. The project received £800,000 in government funding and is expected to house its first residents by winter 2025.
The council noted that there are nearly 2,000 households on the housing register in Worthing. The new homes will not only allow local families to stay near loved ones but also help the council focus its resources on providing services to the community. Efforts are being made to minimise disruptions to neighbours during construction.
