Worthing Dad Selected to Deliver TED Talk on Tackling Fatherhood Isolation
Dan Flanagan, a father from Worthing and founder of Dad La Soul, will take the stage at TED Global in Brighton to share his work addressing social isolation among fathers. Selected from over 600 applicants, Flanagan’s grassroots movement has transformed the lives of thousands of dads.
Flanagan’s journey began in 2017 when he created Dad La Soul, a community project aimed at breaking the stigma around men’s mental health. Inspired by his own struggles with isolation and grief, he organised innovative meet-ups for fathers and their children. The initiative has since grown into a national network, offering events and safe spaces for dads to connect and share their experiences.
On 12th December 2024, Flanagan will present his work at TED Global, highlighting the challenges fathers face and the creative solutions his organisation provides. He hopes to inspire broader support for men’s mental health, emphasising that grassroots initiatives like Dad La Soul are vital to preventing crises and saving lives. The talk comes as the UK launches its first Men’s Health Strategy, prioritising mental health and suicide prevention.
