Worthing Football Club Stadium Upgrade Plans Approved
Worthing Football Clubhas received approval from Worthing Borough Council for extensive upgrades to their stadium at Woodside Road.
The approved plans include the construction of a new, covered north grandstand which will increase the maximum capacity from 940 to approximately 1,818 spectators, including five seats for disabled fans.
The redevelopment project also includes new roof coverings for the west stand and the previously uncovered northeast stand section. Safety concerns led to the removal of roof coverings over the west terrace in March 2023, with the new plans set to replace them with a more extensive covering.
Additional facilities, such as a new toilet block and a food and drink building, will be established in the northwest corner of the ground to enhance the overall spectator experience.
The plans faced over 20 objections from local residents concerned about overdevelopment, loss of parking, and increased traffic.
But the club asserts that approximately 70% of home fans travel to games using public transport and has committed to improving traffic conditions and promoting public transport usage among fans.
The council’s approval includes conditions like ensuring adequate disabled parking and conducting further traffic surveys, especially if the club secures promotion.
