Worthing Hospital's New Urgent Treatment Centre to Improve Emergency Services
Improvement works at Worthing Hospital are set to enhance emergency services but will temporarily change how patients access A&E.
The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust has begun construction of a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) within the hospital’s expanded Emergency Department. The centre will relocate from its current location and is expected to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times, while ensuring patients receive appropriate care for non-life-threatening conditions. During the work, restricted space and visiting limitations will be in place to minimise disruption.
Temporary access changes include a new external entrance from November 4, along with a pedestrian path to maintain safe access. Visiting restrictions are also in effect, allowing only one accompanying person per patient in A&E. The patient drop-off car park outside the A&E entrance has permanently closed, with a new drop-off point at the main hospital reception.
The improvements, expected to be completed by June 2025, will see the UTC handle around 40,000 patients annually.
