Worthing MP Attended Remembrance Service with Police-Advised Security

Dr Beccy Cooper, MP for Worthing West, attended the Remembrance Sunday service at Worthing Town Hall on November 10, accompanied by a security detail following advice from Sussex Police.

The MP, attending her first Remembrance event in her new government role, explained that the precaution was necessary due to increasing safety concerns for public officials.

Ms Cooper told the Brighton Argus, “I accepted the advice from the parliamentary security team and Sussex Police, which encourages us to have security at large public events. This is a precaution that has sadly become more necessary in the past few years following threats and acts of violence towards MPs.”

The safety measures come in the context of recent attacks on MPs, including the murders of Jo Cox in 2016 and Sir David Amess in 2021.
