Worthing MP Raises Concerns Over Green Space Developments in Parliament
Worthing West MP Beccy Cooper has brought the issue of housing developments on green spaces to Parliament, voicing concerns about their impact on the local environment.
Cooper has been actively involved in opposing housing plans in the area, particularly a recent proposal for 190 homes and a community development on farmland in Angmering.
Last month, Cooper participated in a protest against the Angmering development, where approximately 150 people gathered to express their opposition. Cooper described the proposal as “inappropriate,” arguing that it fails to provide sufficient benefits to offset the negative effects on the landscape and character of the area.
During a session in Parliament following the summer recess, Cooper raised these concerns directly, highlighting the need to balance housing development with the preservation of urban green spaces. In response, Housing and Planning Minister Matthew Pennycook reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting green spaces while also addressing the need for housing. A decision on the Angmering planning application is expected by mid-November.
