Worthing MPs Highlight A&E and Maternity Care Challenges During Hospital Visit
Worthing MPs Tom Rutland and Beccy Cooper visited Worthing Hospital to assess the challenges faced by the A&E and Maternity Care departments, including the hospital’s struggle with overcapacity.
During the visit, the MPs observed the conditions in the A&E department, which regularly sees over 250 patients daily, resulting in care being administered in corridors due to a lack of available beds on hospital wards. The hospital is currently operating at 103% capacity, adding strain on resources and staff. Additionally, many patients who are medically fit for discharge remain in the hospital due to the unavailability of appropriate social care packages, further exacerbating the pressure on hospital services.
Beccy Cooper, Worthing West MP, highlighted the need for effective health prevention and promotion programmes, as well as better integration between health and social care systems. She expressed her commitment to addressing these issues both locally in Worthing West and on a national level, aiming to improve the overall effectiveness of the healthcare system.
