Worthing | August 12, 2024

Tom Rutland, MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, and Beccy Cooper, MP for Worthing West, visited Worthing Masjid on Ivy Arch Road to express their support for the local Muslim community.

The visit comes in the wake of nationwide unrest following the tragic stabbing of three young girls in Southport.

During their visit, the MPs condemned the recent rise in far-right protests and hate crimes, which have sparked fear and tension across communities. Mr Rutland and Ms Cooper emphasised the importance of unity and assured the mosque’s leaders that they are committed to safeguarding the community against further violence.

The MPs’ visit is part of broader efforts to foster solidarity and reject divisive rhetoric. Both politicians highlighted the need to stand together in times of fear and uncertainty, reaffirming their dedication to promoting peace and understanding within the Worthing area.
