Worthing Pier Closed for Repairs Following Storm Damage
Worthing Pier has been temporarily closed as a precaution after one of its supports was damaged during recent storms.
Worthing Borough Council made the decision to close the pier to ensure public safety, following a regular inspection that revealed storm damage to part of the pier’s underside.
This marks the first instance of such significant damage to Worthing Pier in over 25 years. The council, acting on the advice of independent structural engineers, has brought in contractors to carry out repairs. The repairs can only take place during the next spring low tide, expected on October 15th, when the tide recedes far enough to allow safe access for the work.
The council has issued warnings to watercraft operators, including boats and paddleboards, to avoid passing under the pier during the closure. Local fishermen and harbour authorities have also been notified.
The council has thanked local businesses and residents for their patience, emphasising that public safety remains the top priority during the repair process.
