Worthing Pier Could Reopen in Late November
Worthing Pier is set to undergo temporary repairs starting next week, with the aim of reopening for public access, according to Worthing Council.
Whilst the council have not announced any timescales for repair, local businesses affected by the closure are being kept informed of the progress, with “Perch On The Pier” announcing on social media that they are re-opening bookings in anticipation of the work being completed in late November.
The repairs, prompted by severe weather damage to several supporting piles, will involve installing additional temporary supports under the pier. Contractors are currently finalising plans to ensure all necessary materials and equipment are ready for the project, which can only take place during spring low tides, allowing safe access beneath the pier. The first series of suitable tides will begin next week.
To support the repairs, a section of the beach and promenade between the pier and the lido will be fenced off, while a materials compound will be set up nearby. Although the promenade will stay open, it will be narrower than usual. Worthing Council has stated they will keep disruption to a minimum, but some noise is expected during the works.
The pier remains closed to the public until safety can be confirmed.
