Worthing Pier Maintenance Scheduled During Spring Low Tides

Worthing Borough Council has announced plans to carry out minor repairs on Worthing Pier during the upcoming spring low tides, beginning around 27 February. The repairs follow inspections of the pier’s substructure conducted in late 2024.

Contractors installed a new steel support structure on the pier in November and December last year, during which engineers conducted routine inspections of the substructure. These inspections identified a list of minor maintenance tasks necessary to preserve the pier’s structural integrity, according to a council spokesperson.

The repairs, which include tightening bolts and replacing tie bars and bull bars, can only be undertaken during spring low tides when the tide recedes sufficiently to allow safe access beneath the pier. The council confirmed that preparations are underway, with measurements taken ahead of the anticipated low tides later this month.

In addition to the scheduled maintenance, the council reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the pier and other coastal heritage sites for future generations. Plans are in place to engage the local community in developing a long-term preservation blueprint for the pier, the lido, and other key landmarks along the coastline.
