Worthing Pier Repairs Delayed Due to Adverse Weather
Worthing Pier will remain closed this week as adverse weather has delayed essential repair work, according to Worthing Borough Council.
Contractors are racing to complete a temporary fix following storm damage that forced the pier’s closure in October.
The council revealed that progress on the repairs, which include welding and bracing steel trusses and beams onto six new piles, has been slowed by shorter low tides caused by recent weather conditions. Despite the setbacks, officials are hopeful the work can be completed by the end of next week, within November’s tidal window. Contractors have been working around the clock, including during nighttime low tides, to ensure safety and stability.
Worthing Pier was closed on October 10 after a section of the structure sustained significant storm damage. The council thanked the public for their patience and urged residents to avoid restricted areas around the pier while repairs are ongoing.
