Worthing Pier Repairs Progress Despite Severe Weather Delays
Worthing Pier repairs are progressing well despite severe weather conditions causing delays to the work schedule, according to Worthing Borough Council.
The council reported that strong winds and heavy rain earlier in the week significantly reduced the duration of low tides, impacting the pace of repairs. However, contractors have completed critical welding and bracing tasks, enabling work to transition to the pier deck instead of relying on shore-based access. This progress marks a crucial step toward safely reopening the pier.
Plans are underway to install temporary scaffolding to facilitate the final stages of the project. However, due to expected strong winds, assembly of the scaffolding has been postponed until Monday to avoid risks of damage. In the meantime, heavy equipment not needed for the final phases is being removed from the site to restore beach access once the repairs are completed.
Residents are reminded that the pier remains a live construction site, and entering restricted areas poses safety risks and potential delays to the project. The council continues to monitor weather conditions and anticipates reopening Worthing Pier soon, ensuring its structural integrity and public safety.
