Worthing Pier Unsafe for November Fireworks Display
Worthing Pier will not reopen in time for the annual Worthing Lions fireworks display due to ongoing structural concerns following storm damage.
Worthing Borough Council has confirmed that the 5th November fireworks event will not take place on Worthing Pier this year. Recent inspections revealed additional hidden damage to the pier’s supports, leading to concerns over public safety. Despite efforts to stabilise the structure, it remains unsafe for use until further repairs can be made.
Engineers have been working to assess the damage and plan for repairs, but the council has stated that there is no certainty the pier will be stable enough by early November. As a result, the council and the Worthing Lions have taken the decision to cancel the event. Work on the pier will continue in the next tidal window starting 14th November, with no set date for reopening.
Council leader Sophie Cox expressed disappointment but emphasised that public safety must come first. The council is working with contractors to reopen the pier as soon as it is safe to do so, with updates available on their website.
