Worthing Poundland Remains Closed One Week After Warehouse Fire

Poundland’s Worthing branch on Montague Street remains closed a week after a fire broke out in its warehouse, with no confirmed reopening date.
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service responded to reports of a blaze at the retail store shortly after 4pm on Friday, 14 March. Crews arrived to find a fire in the warehouse area and deployed five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the incident. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hoses to bring the fire under control, with the scene declared safe just before 9pm that evening.
The emergency services advised members of the public to avoid the area while the fire was being dealt with. Although no injuries were reported, the store has remained shut since the incident. Signs placed in the windows cite ’electrical issues’ as the reason for the continued closure.
A Poundland spokesperson confirmed that a reopening date has yet to be set, stating that the company is still working through the aftermath of the fire. They emphasised that safety remains the top priority and the store will only reopen once all outstanding issues have been addressed.
