Worthing Receives Clean Beach Award

Worthing | January 1, 0001

Worthing has received a prestigious clean beach award from Keep Britain Tidy.

The beach was amongst 12 in the south recognised for excellent quality with Blue Flags - an international accolade reserved for beaches that demonstrate exceptional water quality.

Keep Britain Tidy conducted assessments using information provided by the Environment Agency and based on safety, water quality, and waste management. Worthing’s water quality was closely monitored during the bathing season from May to September.

Several other West Sussex beaches including Bognor Regis were also granted the award, whilst nearby Brighton lost the coveted title for a section of beach around the Palace Pier after the quality of water was downgraded from excellent to good.

Southern Water’s chief executive issued an apology this week for the utility company’s slow action in preventing sewage spills.
