Worthing Residents Concerned Over Creosote Smell from Development Site

Residents of central Worthing have voiced concerns about a persistent creosote smell in the area, believed to be emanating from the old gas works site on Lyndhurst Road.

Worthing Borough Council has apologised, confirming that the smell is caused by coal tar from the site. They assured residents that the material is being removed and air quality is actively monitored. While the odour is unpleasant, the council stressed that it poses no health risks and should dissipate soon.

The site has undergone redevelopment, with plans for additional housing approved earlier this year.
