Worthing School Safety Scheme Enforced to Protect Children

Police in Worthing have issued warnings to motorists who ignored road signage during school drop-off times outside Thomas A Becket Junior School. Officers aim to enforce safety measures designed to protect children.

Thomas A Becket Junior School on Glebeside Avenue is participating in a School Street Trial scheme, a joint initiative with West Sussex County Council.

The scheme restricts motor vehicles from entering the road directly outside the school gates during drop-off and pick-up times, with exceptions for residents, businesses, and essential access.

Police community support officers attended the school to monitor compliance and provide support. Five motorists were spoken to for breaching the rules, with officers issuing warnings but promising stricter enforcement in the future.

The School Street Trial, launched in September 2023, aims to create low-traffic zones near schools, encouraging families to opt for sustainable travel options.
