Worthing Sweet Shop Closes Permanently After Multiple Robberies
The Sussex Sweet Shop in Worthing has permanently closed due to repeated robberies and burglaries.
The owner stated that continued criminal activity has made it unfeasible to keep the business open.
Earlier this month, police responded to an incident at the shop on Broadwater Street East where a staff member was injured during an altercation with two men. The area was cordoned off, and evidence bags were seen in Broadwater cemetery.
The shop has faced severe criminal incidents over the years, including a 2010 robbery where the shopkeeper was tied up and locked in a bathroom by thieves who stole from the safe.
The shop’s owner expressed gratitude to loyal customers but cited ongoing nighttime burglary attempts as a reason for closure. In a message posted on the shop’s window, the owner thanked the community for their support over the past seventeen and a half years, stating it was no longer worth the effort to continue operating the business.
