Worthing Veterans Open Field of Remembrance Ahead of Remembrance Sunday
Veterans in Worthing have gathered to lay the first crosses in the Field of Remembrance, marking the beginning of commemorations ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
Former soldiers from across Worthing were joined by Mayor Ibsha Choudhury to open the Field of Remembrance near the town’s war memorial on Chapel Road. The veterans placed crosses to honour those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, as well as other global conflicts.
A minute’s silence was observed at the event, marking the beginning of a series of remembrance events scheduled throughout the week. Remembrance Sunday, observed nationwide on November 10, will see towns and cities across Sussex pausing to pay respects.
Further ceremonies will be held on November 11 marking the anniversary of the end of the First World War at 11 am on November 11, 1918.
