Worthing's Angels Bar Faces Restrictions Over Noise Complaints
Angels Bar and Club in Worthing may have to restrict its entertainment hours following multiple noise complaints and legal action. The venue could face reduced hours unless changes are made and an appeal is successful.
Adur and Worthing Councils have ruled that Angels Bar, located on High Street, has been causing excessive noise, resulting in a public nuisance. The council’s licensing committee made the decision on May 8 after receiving numerous complaints from residents and Environmental Protection officers. The committee found “compelling evidence” that the noise was disturbing neighbours and the wider community.
A statutory notice was issued to the club in July 2023, demanding a reduction in noise within two days, but this requirement was breached multiple times. The committee reported a lack of commitment from the licence holder to address the issue, resulting in the continuation of noise complaints into May 2024.
Consequently, from June 4, the club will have to stop loud music by 11pm each night until a qualified person conducts a noise assessment and implements an effective noise reduction.
