Worthing's Railway Station Mosaic Plaques Celebrate Town's Rich Heritage

Four mosaic roundels have been installed at Worthing railway station as part of improvement works funded by West Sussex County Council in collaboration with Southern Rail. Two large plaques at the station entrance feature intricate designs filled with words and images showcasing the town’s identity, including its seaside charm, historical significance, and notable residents.
The mosaics honour famous figures associated with Worthing, such as author Jane Austen, comedian Gladys Morgan, and singer Alma Cogan. Among the playful details are images of fish, crabs, and dragonflies, along with the striking phrase ‘God’s waiting room no more,’ printed on an upside-down heart.
The artwork, created by Artyface, a public art group led by Maud Milton, aims to leave a lasting legacy. Smaller plaques at the station steps focus on themes of ‘Community’ and ‘Seaside,’ further reflecting Worthing’s vibrant character and rejecting outdated stereotypes.
