Field Place Miniature Railway
For our first Worthing Soundscape, we’ve captured the unique sounds of the Field Place Miniature Railway. Close your eyes and let the rhythmic chug of the steam engine, the joyful laughter of children, and the distant whistles transport you to a sunny Sunday afternoon at Field Place.
Operated by the Worthing & District Society of Model Engineers, the Field Place Miniature Railway is part of a rich tradition where miniature steam railways bring the wonder of locomotives to life on a smaller, yet equally captivating, scale.
The elevated triple gauge railway track stretches approximately 440 yards. This meticulously maintained track accommodates 5", 3½", and 2½" gauge locomotives—each representing about 1/11th scale of their full-sized counterparts. It’s a marvel of engineering that provides endless enjoyment for both the Society’s members and the general public.
The Field Place Miniature Railway isn’t just a display of technical skill; it’s an interactive experience that invites you to take a ride and relive the golden age of steam. Public rides are offered on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, from April through October. These days are a chance for families, railway enthusiasts, and curious visitors to experience the thrill of riding behind a miniature steam locomotive, feeling the gentle breeze as the train winds its way through the scenic surroundings of Field Place.
If you’re eager to experience this in person, be sure to check the Public Running calendar on the Society’s website to find out when the next public running day is scheduled.
