The Disappearance of Georgina Gharsallah - A Family’s Fight for Answers

Georgina Gharsallah, a 30-year-old mother of two, disappeared from Worthing on March 7, 2018. Her last confirmed sighting was at 9:30 am that day, captured on CCTV at the Clifton Food and Wine shop on Clifton Road, where she sought assistance with her mobile phone.

She mentioned plans to visit the local JobCentre and meet her father later that morning but failed to attend either appointment. Her mobile phone was last active around 11:30 am, with records showing that it connected to a local mast in Worthing before going offline. Since then, there has been no activity on her bank accounts or social media profiles.

In August 2019, Sussex Police reclassified Georgina’s case as a homicide due to the prolonged lack of evidence indicating she was alive. Despite extensive investigations, including public appeals and a £20,000 reward offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to an arrest and conviction, no significant leads have emerged.

A potential sighting from CCTV footage later on the day of her disappearance showed a woman resembling Georgina walking with another woman in Worthing town centre, but their identities remain unconfirmed.

Georgina’s family has been actively involved in the search, expressing dissatisfaction with the initial police response. They have conducted independent efforts, including filming a reconstruction of her last known movements with assistance from former detective Clive Driscoll. This initiative aimed to generate new leads and maintain public awareness.

To keep Georgina’s case in the public eye, her mother, Andrea, has organised various campaigns, such as distributing posters across service stations and participating in media interviews. In December 2022, a supporter traveled to all 12 service stations on the M5, displaying posters to raise awareness about Georgina’s disappearance.

Despite these efforts, Georgina’s whereabouts remain unknown. Sussex Police continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward, emphasising their commitment to providing answers for her family.

In March 2024, marking six years since Georgina’s disappearance, her mother Andrea reflected on the enduring uncertainty: “Every day is a rollercoaster… I’ve run marathons, done walks, anything just to keep her name out there. If I don’t do it, who will?”

The family has also faced challenges with misinformation and unverified theories circulating online. Andrea has addressed these directly, stating: “There is no evidence whatsoever to support any of these stories… Georgina is missing still and nobody has any answers.”

The community continues to support the search for Georgina, with local events and social media campaigns aimed at keeping her story alive. As time passes, the hope remains that someone with crucial information will come forward to provide the answers her family desperately seeks.
